Courageous Crossing Adult Rites of Passage
San Diego County

Philosophy and Mission

The mission of the Courageous Crossing Rite of Passage is to re-align people disassociated with lineages of origin, promoting an understanding of earth ways and traditional knowledge that is based in original geneology.

Many non traditional people long for a deeper sense of connectedness to others, to the natural world, and to their own earth roots. In the recent past, many have frequently looked towards contemporary tribal peoples for personal healing and a new understanding of current world transitions.

The process of recovering earth wisdom engages students in
a personal journey designed to heal the dissociation that is characteristic of contemporary chaotic consciousness. This dissociation has resulted in a perceived split between body and mind, spirit and matter, human and nature, human and human. Our fundamental assumption is that earth consciousness can be recovered, even when it was last present many generations ago. However, such remembering takes time and requires extensive grounding; the help of traditional ways in this series is important in the process. This Rite of Passage calls together those who have a deep commitment to the challenging work of grounding their life-ways in earth consciousness. It serves as a gathering place where intensive self transition is created and supported in a community of Guardians.

These precious ways are disappearing rapidly. It is time to grasp the scientific depth of earth knowledge. In learning about your own earth roots roots, you become capable of understanding life transition, self expression, and healing from an all emcompassing perspective.

Our currently shifting world reality makes it necessary to broaden and deepen the impact of and influence to of each person, to maintain and strengthen the integrity of cooperative ways and to use earth connection to regenerate the health of the planet and humans alike. The Rite of Passage’s mission is to help you in the recircuiting of beliefs and concepts that will support a sustainable way of life and promotes a sense of interdependence.

Eath Context
The University of Saskatewan and University of Hawaii have affirmed the validity and significance of this traditional indigenous form of healing. These institutes of higher learning have made it clear that this type of unification healing has a central role in the survival of our planet. Yet few people understand the depth of traditional healing and fewer still are trained in the indigenous approach. This Rite of Passage helps you to shift your fundamental assumptions and perceptions of the world so that your own earth wisdom and that of others can be approached in an appropriate way. To accomplish this shift, you are encouraged to immerse yourself completely in the work and to take advantage of this living traditional WisdomKeeper and her unique understanding of the generational teachings of her family.

Maria Yraceburu plays an important role in your journey. She considers all of nature to be intelligent and alive, and interacts with nature itself as an active co-creative partner. Courageous Crossing has a choreographed process for ensuring its own integrity and validity. It is a holistic process that draws on all of your senses and ways of knowing. It is a process concerned with the balance of all things. Ritual and lecture are designed to help you recover the wisdom of their own earth roots and to move beyond an individualistic sense of self towards the cooperative self which remains a potential for contemporary life.

Rite of Passage Approach
The recovery of earth roots entails a process of remembrance and involves:
  • A profound shift in ways of knowing.
  • Use of retrospective methods based on a ritualistic paradigm
  • Ceremony that grounds knowledge in the historical, mythological, and earth aspects of your common nobility
  • The personal integrity and patience for healing a dissociated way of being in the world.
Regeneration of conscious thought means the honest examinations of the process of the splitting the mind. It means grieving the traumatic patterns of victimization and confronting internalized patterns that keep us there. It requires an end to the personal agenda of validation. It calls for facing spirits that have been neglected and not honored for centuries. It means facing the sensation of uncertainty – a recognition that our knowledge about community, healing, and nature is in transition.

We call together all those who are seeking the reclaimation of an authentic self and life. The series is for people who see the importance of expanding worldviews and who want to discover how to generate and manifest peace. It is for those who are concerned about the evolution of precious life-ways and the affirmation of life of all live forms on the planet. It is dedicated to training people to recover and reestablish the integrity of the life-ways of their original earth ancestors, life-ways which teach us all about our responsibility for strengthening the connection between planet and human.

About the Rite of Passage

Initiate options
All first time participants are required to be on line and participate in certain discussions via computer an to attend sessions one a month for a year. (Students do not have to be local if they are okay with traveling.) Sessions focus on the particular month’s required ceremony and on the philosophical discussions.

Guardians
The basic format for training is the Guardianship Roles. Those having already participated as Initiates, may continue with training by working the series closely with Maria and Lynda Yraceburu and in ceremonies and one-on-one work with Initiates in supporting individual processes.

Clans
In our traditional family model, learning takes place in a group situation. Clans go through the process of claiming empowerment together as small family groups, and engage in all Rites together. This design allows for mutual support among participants.

Community
This Rite of Passage offers a way of teaching, learning, and healing which is appropriate for the remembrance , strengthening, and sharing of earth wisdom among those who have a deep commitment to reconnecting with their earth roots. Initiates and Guardians come together for a concentrated period of ritual, discussion, reflection and healing transmission. Meeting in a temporary community format once each month for one year, they engage one another and the healing process in an intensive way. Initiates receive support from each other and from Guardians in the challenging process of accessing remembrance.

Admission
The Rite of Passages seeks individuals who have a deep intellectual, spiritual, and personal commitment to the evolutional perspective of their earth roots. These individuals are grounded in (or are actively learning about) their own truth, have  courage to face the unknown, and have the personal, practical and intellectual capacity to engage actively in innovative transformative learning and traditional healing. A capacity to learn and work both independently and collaboratively is essential, as is a willingness to share stories of experience during this process.

The Rite of Passage series is suitable for those who are actively engaged with the recovery of their own personal truth and who are creating a interconnected context for themselves that reflects this. It is appropriate for people who have a career – perhaps in the social services, counseling, various healing arenas, earth sciences, universal conscious development, or peace education – but who want to re-evaluate the foundations of their work.

This is not a drop in circle and you must sign up prior to November 1, 2008Attendence at all meetings in the series is expected.  Limited to 12 Initiates and 12 Guardians.

From Joe Montoya
Grandfather White Bear...
Maria sees the hawk first. It's Kalei, the Redtail, soaring high among the clouds. Kalei is the messenger, Maria, native american diiyin from Yraceburu EarthWisdom, points out.  "She asks us to be present, and see what is happening next."  Then she dips into the nagoni'i, the old Apache legends that tell how the 4 Sacred Birds were transformed from humans, and the crucial part these magestic Winggeds play in the evolution of humanity's soul.

This is "Yraceburu EarthWisdom," a merging of ancient wisdom and contemporary relevancy.  Through it all, Maria Yraceburu, a thirteenth generation diiyin of the Apache, deftly blends, legends, healing, ritual and prophecy in a way that brings potential to life.  During a Rite of Passage, she points out a block in the energy of an Initiate, a soul sickness that keeps the person from being k'e... in right action... or out of balance with earth, resulting in a soul sickness. She has the person journey with an animal spirit guide or ancestors - not a journey to reclaim what has been lost, but a journey to stand in power and the energy that feeds a community of 13:20 consciousness.  It's the indigenous way of earth.  If you listen closely, life partner, Lynda Yraceburu, a Gypsy Healer and Earth Spirit Photographer, says, you can heart the Earth Mother speak... diktashoon.

According to statistics, the new consciousness in Earth is about connecting earth, humans, and balancing the life they co-create.  At Yraceburu EarthWisdom, this means more than recycling the trash.  In small groups, you can visit Sacred Sites and Elders.  You can learn about rare and powerful ways you can navigate life that were used by ancient earth peoples.  During healing, a client can literally experience total release and restore ihi'dahi, it's a matter of choice.  As Maria says, "In the Now, you experience the Earth from her magnetic influences on your physical and emotional form to her spirit, and know you understand more than before."
