A smile, a disarming smile that shows the depth of compassion…
“Welcome,” I say and then move forward in greeting. “Do you hug?
“Yes, yes, of course,” the other responds. “You are shima?”
“Yes, that’s what some of the community call me.”
The newcomer nods in satisfaction.
“I am… I’m so happy to be here. I’ve been wanting to talk to you.”
“Okay. Let’s go up to the house.”
I turn, gesture the woman, and start up the hill to the house.
“How can I help you?”
“I’m very excited, the land has been reaching out to me. I don’t understand, but it makes me feel better. I’ve found your body of work impressive. A friend thought you could help me.”
The glitter of excitement in the eyes of the young woman shows that this is not an idle conversation. The desire is there.
